The Story of the EAR Muff
Everyone’s heard of the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff. We’ve modeled each of our EAR Muffs after a past Electro-Harmonix model.
So instead of shelling out close to a thousand dollars for some of these models on online auction sites, you can grab one here for a fraction of the price. We spent time listening to various germanium diode combinations to find the sounds that produced the best sustain, and some almost have a “bloom-like” decay.
Versions:
Green Russian - A smooth and beefy beast. A favorite of bassist and guitarist with lower tunings/beefier tone.
Mayo - The most non-traditional version, has a more harsh tone.
Violet Ram’s Head - Think Pink Floyd. Smooth and dreamy sustain.
Mothra - Our take on the first Big Muff circuit the "triangle" muff. The unrelenting gain and very scooped mids make this one scream.
Everyone who plays guitar has heard of the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff™. And everyone who plays guitar should have one. The question is, which Muff?
We looked at many iterations of the Muff over its 40+ years and came up with three models that cover a lot of it’s sonic spectrum. Then, we handpicked components for each EAR Muff to produce the best sound.
This Muff is our take on the Creamy Dreamer style muff. This was a modification done to muffs to give it thee creamiest sustain. This is my (Ryan) personal favorite of the varieties. Its takes the boomy bass from the Russian and adds an insane amount of sustain.
This is a used pedal (one of our personal builds) There is Velcro on the back and some of the paint/polyurathane has been touched up)
