We make guitar pedals and audio effects in a house in the woods. Each unit is adorned with unique artwork and hand-wired with love.

"Music is a taste thing. It’s pleasure. You eat things because they taste good. You make music because it sounds good. And you can dance to it."

Best thing about doing pedal art

It’s a really fun shape to work on. I usually do woodcuts, which are flat. So pedals are in between doing a sculpture and a drawing.

Materials I use

I usually pile on a lot of gesso and then use acrylic, pencil, and India ink. I scratch into them sometimes. But usually it’s a lot of layers of washes.

Favorite EAR pedal line

I like the Rude Man because that’s the first pedal we did. As far the sound goes, I like the Torpedo Fish.

Other art I do

I do woodcuts, usually, and some paintings. I print in my basement. I have a leather press. And I print at Highpoint Center for Printmaking where I also teach art.

Art is communication. It’s commenting on the world. But it’s also really fun to make things from your head and share them and see what other people do with them.
